قامت شركة مايكروسوفت بنشر مقطع فيديو على شبكة يوتيوب يظهر قيام الشركة بتجربة لأشهر متصفحات الإنترنت لتوضيح مقدار سرعة استهلاكها للبطارية، وقد تمّت التجربة باستخدام نظام تشغيل ويندوز 10 مع تشغيل مقطع فيديو عالي الدّقة عبر شبكة الإنترنت.
واستخدمت مايكروسوفت أربعة أجهزة بنفس المواصفات التقنية والعتادية يشغّل كل منها متصفح مختلف، وكانت المتصفحات الداخلة في التجربة هي متصفح جوجل كروم، بالإضافة إلى متصفح فايرفوكس وكذلك متصفح أوبرا وبالتأكيد متصفح إيدج الخاص بشركة مايكروسوفت والذي تمت المقارنة من أجله لإثبات أفضليته عن بقية المتصفحات.
وأظهرت التجربة التي قامت بها مايكروسوفت أن متصفح جوجل كروم تمكّن من تشغيل الفيديو عالي الدّقة لمدّة 4 ساعات و 20 دقيقة تقريبًا؛ وهو الأسوء من بين بقية المتصفحات من حيث استنزاف البطارية، فيما استمر فايرفوكس لمدّة 5 ساعات و 10 دقائق تقريبًا، تلاه متصفح أوبرا الذي استمر في تشغيل نفس الفيديو لمدّة 6 ساعات و 19 دقيقة تقريبًا، وفي النهاية نفذت بطارية الجهاز الذي يشغّل متصفح مايكروسوفت إيدج بعد 7 ساعات و 22 دقيقة عمل تقريبًا، وهو الوقت الأطول من بين بقية الأجهزة.
وأوضحت مايكروسوفت في تجربتها هذه التي نشرتها على مدونتها أيضًا أن متصفحها إيدج يتفوّق على كروم بمقدار 70% في محافظته على طاقة الجهاز، وبنسبة 43% مقارنةً بمتصفح فايرفوكس، وبنسبة 17% مقارنةً مع متصفح أوبرا، مع العلم أن مايكروسوفت قامت بتفعيل ميزة Battery Saver في مختلف الأجهزة الخاضعة للاختبار.
